- About
Ioli (Kalliopi) Sifakaki is a Greek born artist and designer.
Ioli has been working at the interface between various disciplines, very often challenging their traditional boundaries. Her research on rituals, habits and patterns is clearly present in her projects; many of them engage both art and design simultaneously.
Her first studies were in Sciences. She received a BA degree in Chemistry and MA in ‘Medicinal Chemistry’ in 2000 -with excellence-, but her ongoing interests in art lead her to Athens School of Fine Arts, from where she graduated in 2005 with honours for the highest annual performance.
Apart from been part of the New Greek Art scene, she was engaged at a variety of fields as a photographer, animator and illustrator. She has worked as a lay-out artist in animated movies for studios such as Klasky Csupo and Paramount Pictures, while she wrote and illustrated many books in Greece, one of which was published in Korea.
In 2007 she was accepted in both ‘Sculpture’ and ‘Design Products’ MA courses at the Royal College of Art and chose the latter, to study under Ron Arad and Jurgen Bey. She graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2009.
She has worked in projects for companies such as ‘Mothercare’, ‘Yamaha’, ‘Vitra’, and ‘Sevres’ Porcelain.
Her work at the 2009 RCA show, ‘Tantalus dinner’, ‘immediately caught the attention of public and press. It is a project and performance that was exploring a food ritual, by creating unusual dialogues between the maker and the user.
